Paycheck Tax Change

Compare today’s paycheck estimate with a what-if: new salary, new filing status, or both — and see the per-check and annual take-home delta.

Estimates only — not tax, payroll, or financial advice. This is a simplified educational calculator (2026-ish federal brackets + standard deduction, employee FICA, optional flat state tax). It is not IRS Publication 15-T withholding, a substitute for your W-4, or a tax return. Real paystubs vary with credits, benefits, local taxes, additional Medicare tax, and your employer’s payroll system. Confirm numbers with a qualified tax or payroll professional.

About this tool

Paycheck Tax Change is a free online calculator on PaystubKit, the paycheck tools hub from One More Turn Ventures LLC (OMTV). Compare today’s paycheck estimate with a what-if: new salary, new filing status, or both — and see the per-check and annual take-home delta.

What it does: We run the shared engine twice — current salary/status and what-if salary/status — then show signed deltas. 401(k) percent, state flat tax, and pay frequency stay the same on both sides so the change is isolated.

When to use it: Use it when you get a raise letter, switch from single to married (or the reverse), or want a quick “how much more hits the bank” sketch.

Frequently asked questions

Does a raise always increase take-home by the raise minus 22%?

No. Marginal federal brackets, FICA, Additional Medicare, and state tax all matter. This page uses the full annual sketch on both sides rather than a single flat extra-withholding rate.

What if only filing status changes?

Leave the new salary equal to the current salary (we copy it if you leave new salary blank) and change status. Standard deduction and brackets both move.

Are 401(k) dollars held constant or the percent?

Percent. A raise at the same 6% deferral puts more dollars into the 401(k) and still reduces take-home vs a 0% deferral.

Is this a W-4 change preview?

Only loosely. Filing status is Step 1 of the W-4. For dependents and extra withholding, use the W-4 estimator.

Is this tax advice?

No. Estimates only — not tax, payroll, or financial advice.
