401(k) Paycheck Impact

See how a traditional 401(k) deferral changes this paycheck’s take-home and estimated annual income-tax savings.

Estimates only — not tax, payroll, or financial advice. This is a simplified educational calculator (2026-ish federal brackets + standard deduction, employee FICA, optional flat state tax). It is not IRS Publication 15-T withholding, a substitute for your W-4, or a tax return. Real paystubs vary with credits, benefits, local taxes, additional Medicare tax, and your employer’s payroll system. Confirm numbers with a qualified tax or payroll professional.

About this tool

401(k) Paycheck Impact is a free online calculator on PaystubKit, the paycheck tools hub from One More Turn Ventures LLC (OMTV). See how a traditional 401(k) deferral changes this paycheck’s take-home and estimated annual income-tax savings.

What it does: Enter annual salary and a deferral percent. We compare take-home at 0% vs your percent using the shared PaystubKit engine. Traditional employee 401(k) reduces federal/state taxable wages, not Social Security or Medicare.

When to use it: Use it when choosing a contribution rate and you want a planning estimate of the paycheck hit vs tax savings — then confirm against your plan and paystub.

Frequently asked questions

Does a 401(k) contribution reduce FICA?

Traditional employee 401(k) deferrals typically reduce federal (and often state) taxable wages, but they remain subject to Social Security and Medicare. This estimator follows that pattern.

Is take-home gross minus tax, or minus the 401(k) too?

This tool treats take-home as estimated net after both the 401(k) deferral and estimated taxes — the amount more likely to hit your bank if 401(k) is your only pre-tax deduction.

What about Roth 401(k)?

Roth elective deferrals do not reduce current federal taxable wages. This slider models a traditional (pre-tax) deferral only.

Do you cap the IRS elective deferral limit?

No annual dollar cap is applied. The 2026 elective-deferral limit may apply to your real plan. Treat large percents as illustrative.

Is this tax advice?

No. PaystubKit results are educational estimates only — not tax, payroll, or financial advice.
