W-4 Withholding Estimator

A rough per-paycheck withholding sketch from Form W-4 steps — filing status, dependents, extra withholding, and the multiple-jobs checkbox.

Estimates only — not tax, payroll, or financial advice. This is a simplified educational calculator (2026-ish federal brackets + standard deduction, employee FICA, optional flat state tax). It is not IRS Publication 15-T withholding, a substitute for your W-4, or a tax return. Real paystubs vary with credits, benefits, local taxes, additional Medicare tax, and your employer’s payroll system. Confirm numbers with a qualified tax or payroll professional.

About this tool

W-4 Withholding Estimator is a free online calculator on PaystubKit, the paycheck tools hub from One More Turn Ventures LLC (OMTV). A rough per-paycheck withholding sketch from Form W-4 steps — filing status, dependents, extra withholding, and the multiple-jobs checkbox.

What it does: We annualize salary, apply a simplified 2026 bracket table and standard deduction (halved if the Step 2 checkbox is on), subtract Step 3 credits, then add Step 4c extra withholding per check. This is not IRS Publication 15-T.

When to use it: Use it to ballpark whether a W-4 change might raise or lower take-home — then use IRS Tax Withholding Estimator or a tax pro before you file a new W-4.

Frequently asked questions

Is this IRS Publication 15-T withholding?

No. Employers use Pub 15-T percentage or wage-bracket methods with your W-4. This page is a rougher annual-tax-then-divide sketch for planning.

What does the Step 2 checkbox do here?

Educational sketch only: we use half the standard deduction so withholding looks higher, similar in spirit to the checkbox. It is not the two-earner worksheet.

How are dependent credits applied?

Step 3: $2,000 per qualifying child (CTC sketch) plus $500 per other dependent (ODC sketch), subtracted from estimated annual federal tax, then spread across pay periods.

Does extra withholding reduce tax due at filing?

Step 4c extra withholding increases federal withheld each check. It does not change your tax liability — it only changes timing. This tool adds it to estimated federal withheld.

Is this tax advice?

No. Estimates only — not tax, payroll, or financial advice. Not a substitute for Form W-4 or the IRS estimator.
