Hourly vs Salary Compare

Put an hourly offer next to a salary offer — including overtime eligibility — and see estimated annual gross and take-home.

Estimates only — not tax, payroll, or financial advice. This is a simplified educational calculator (2026-ish federal brackets + standard deduction, employee FICA, optional flat state tax). It is not IRS Publication 15-T withholding, a substitute for your W-4, or a tax return. Real paystubs vary with credits, benefits, local taxes, additional Medicare tax, and your employer’s payroll system. Confirm numbers with a qualified tax or payroll professional.

About this tool

Hourly vs Salary Compare is a free online calculator on PaystubKit, the paycheck tools hub from One More Turn Ventures LLC (OMTV). Put an hourly offer next to a salary offer — including overtime eligibility — and see estimated annual gross and take-home.

What it does: Hourly annual gross = rate × weekly hours × weeks, plus optional OT hours at 1.5×. Salary uses the annual figure you enter. Both run through the same federal/FICA sketch so you can compare take-home, not just sticker pay.

When to use it: Use it when one offer is hourly (OT eligible) and the other is salaried exempt — or when you want a net, not just a gross, comparison.

Frequently asked questions

How is hourly annualized?

Weekly gross = rate × regular hours + rate × 1.5 × OT hours (if OT eligible). Annual = weekly × weeks per year (default 52).

What if the salary job expects extra hours?

Enter extra hours on the salary side. They increase the hour denominator for effective hourly pay but do not increase salary gross (exempt-style). Unpaid overtime is the usual tradeoff.

Is overtime always 1.5×?

This compare uses 1.5× as a common FLSA-style shortcut. It is not a full regular-rate calculation and ignores bonuses, shift diffs, and daily OT rules.

Do you withhold the same on OT as on salary?

Both sides use the same simplified annual engine. Real overtime may be withheld differently on that check. Planning estimate only.

Is this tax advice?

No. Estimates only — not tax, payroll, or financial advice.
